Town of Colebrook, Connecticut

Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

Despite today’s welcome precipitation, ALL open burning in Colebrook remains strictly prohibited until further notice. This includes ALL leaf burning, and the use of fire pits and chimineas, without exception.

Next week, Town Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be pushed back one day.

We are pleased to announce that Colebrook resident Greg Ruot will be joining the Department of Public Works crew on Monday, December 2^nd, in the role of highway maintainer. An Air Force veteran with experience in vehicle maintenance, snowplowing and landscaping, Greg replaces Mike Girolamo, who left earlier his month for an opportunity with a neighboring town.

The Town will host a Public Informational Hearing on Monday, November 25^th, at 7 p.m. to enable residents to ask questions and learn more about a proposed 20-year, $4.9 million Tax Stabilization Agreement with Wind Colebrook South.

On Monday, December 9^th, there will be a special town meeting adjourning to referendum on Tuesday, December 10^th, where taxpayers will have an opportunity to consider the proposed agreement and approve, or disapprove. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots will be available in the Town Clerk’s office, as provided by law. Requests must be made in person.

Last Thursday, approximately 20 parents, staff and Board of Education members attended a joint Colebrook-Norfolk Board of Selectmen meeting to discuss potential K-6 educational collaboration between the towns. No decisions were made regarding a path forward to explore options, but many good ideas were shared. Both Boards of Selectmen are committed to an inclusive and transparent exploration process. Stay tuned for further updates.

We have made good progress in recent weeks with our new Town well (behind the Colebrook Historical Society). Pending water quality tests and state approval, we expect to be operational by year-end.

Upcoming community events and fundraisers

The Colebrook Consolidated School (CCS) Class of 2027 is designing a wall calendar of artwork submitted by CCS students. Proceeds from calendar sales will benefit the 6^th grade class trip to Nature’s Classroom. Business card-sized ads will be included on the calendar for $20. The Colebrook Community & Senior Center Quilters & Crafters is raffling a Handmade Tulip Quilt on December 7^th. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased by contacting seniordirector@colebrooktownhall.org. The Center is also hosting a Grief Support Series beginning tonight (November 21^st) at 6 p.m. The series will be run by hospice-trained Paula Petty-Barber, RN, and will take place on alternate Thursdays over a 16-week period.  The fall play at Northwestern Region 7 is the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and runs from November 22-24. Performances are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Advance tickets can be purchased at https://nwrtheater.ticketleap.com/. Tickets are also available at the door.

The Colebrook Historical Society is hosting its Holiday Open House and Silent Auction on Sunday, December 8^th, from 3-5 p.m. (Last week, we reported that this event was Sunday, December 1^st. Please note the corrected date). Music and refreshments will be provided. The event will conclude with the lighting of the trees on the Green.

The Colebrook Holiday Fair will be held on Saturday, December 14^th, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The day will include breakfast with Santa, a Holiday Fair with vendors, Cookieland, the Holiday Café, and more. You can donate items now for the Children’s Shopping Table at the Fair by placing items in the collection bin next to the elevator on the lower level of Town Hall.

1. Contract of Employment Superintendent of Schools between the Colebrook Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools for the period of July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2027; and
2. Professional Agreement between the Colebrook Board of Education and the Principal for the period of July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026;
