Colebrook Town Hall offices, Public Works Department, Community & Senior Center, and Food Pantry will be

closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th in observance of Thanksgiving.

Normal hours will resume on Monday, December 2nd.

Trash and recycling pick up will be adjusted one day as a result of this holiday. Thursday pick up will be on Friday and Friday pick up will be on Saturday.

News from Colebrook Town Hall

Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection yesterday announced that, effective immediately, the statewide burn ban for Connecticut’s State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management Areas has been lifted. This decision comes as recent precipitation has significantly improved conditions and lowered the forest fire danger level to LOW-to-MODERATE, statewide. Open burning regulations are now back to normal.

Town Hall will be closed tomorrow and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be pushed back one day this week.
Seventy residents attended a Public Informational Hearing earlier this week to ask questions and learn more about a proposed 20-year, $4.9 million Tax Stabilization Agreement with Wind Colebrook South. On Monday, December 9th, there will be a special town meeting adjourning to referendum on Tuesday, December 10th, where taxpayers will have an opportunity to consider the proposed agreement and approve, or disapprove. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots will be available in the Town Clerk’s office, as provided by law. Requests must be made in person.

Colebrook’s Annual Children’s Christmas Party with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 7th, from 1-3 p.m. at the Colebrook Center Firehouse at 31 Bunnell St. Bring your little ones, birth through 5th grade, for a visit and receive a gift from Santa. Refreshments and light snacks provided. Feel free to bring a plate of snacks to share. This event has been sponsored by the Colebrook Center Ladies Auxiliary for 61 years!
The Colebrook Historical Society is hosting its Holiday Open House and Silent Auction on Sunday, December 8th, from 3-5 p.m. Music and refreshments will be provided. The event will conclude with the lighting of the trees on the Green.
The Colebrook Holiday Fair will be held on Saturday, December 14th, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The day will include breakfast with Santa, a Holiday Fair with vendors, Cookieland, the Holiday Café, and more. Please consider donating items for the Children’s Shopping Table at the Fair by placing items in the collection bin next to the elevator on the lower level of Town Hall. Breakfast with Santa will take place from 9-11 a.m. that day in the lower level of the Colebrook Congregational Church.

Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

Despite today’s welcome precipitation, ALL open burning in Colebrook remains strictly prohibited until further notice. This includes ALL leaf burning, and the use of fire pits and chimineas, without exception.

Next week, Town Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be pushed back one day.

We are pleased to announce that Colebrook resident Greg Ruot will be joining the Department of Public Works crew on Monday, December 2nd, in the role of highway maintainer. An Air Force veteran with experience in vehicle maintenance, snowplowing and landscaping, Greg replaces Mike Girolamo, who left earlier his month for an opportunity with a neighboring town.

Last Thursday, approximately 20 parents, staff and Board of Education members attended a joint Colebrook-Norfolk Board of Selectmen meeting to discuss potential K-6 educational collaboration between the towns. No decisions were made regarding a path forward to explore options, but many good ideas were shared. Both Boards of Selectmen are committed to an inclusive and transparent exploration process. Stay tuned for further updates.

We have made good progress in recent weeks with our new Town well (behind the Colebrook Historical Society). Pending water quality tests and state approval, we expect to be operational by year-end.

Upcoming community events and fundraisers

The Colebrook Consolidated School (CCS) Class of 2027 is designing a wall calendar of artwork submitted by CCS students. Proceeds from calendar sales will benefit the 6th grade class trip to Nature’s Classroom. Business card-sized ads will be included on the calendar for $20. The Colebrook Community & Senior Center Quilters & Crafters is raffling a Handmade Tulip Quilt on December 7th.
